Opening Ceremonies Monday Kick Off 2023 Active Life Games
The Hillsborough County athletic events for seniors will continue through Oct. 13.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — Opening ceremonies were held Monday for this year’s Active Life Games, which helps promote physical and mental fitness through an Olympics-style competition that attracts hundreds of adults 50 and older each year.
Monday’s first event was a 1-mile walk/run at 8 a.m. at Barksdale Active Adult Center, 1801 N. Lincoln Ave., Tampa, followed by the opening ceremonies and a talent showcase.
The Active Life Games, organized by Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation, began in the early 1980s, and this year’s Active Life Games continues the tradition of offering a variety of contests for all skill and fitness levels. Events range from track and field to bag toss to pickleball to billiards, dominoes and bowling.
