Spann was driving a black Infinity and Hornsby was in the front passenger seat with a loaded gun resting on his lap. Spann drove through the crowd while Hornsby got into a shouting match with rival gang members before opening fire. Hornsby also pulled out his gun and fired into the crowd, according to police.
Panic ensued, with surveillance video capturing the chaos as the crowd scattered for safety.
Police later recovered dozens of ammunition casings. The shooting injured at least eight people, including children, who were shot in the jaw, shoulder, elbow, wrist, finger, foot, arms and legs.
Six days later, on the afternoon of Saturday, July 25, 2020, in retaliation for the Truth Lounge shooting, three rival gang members ambushed Hornsby and Spann as they left the International Plaza in Tampa.
Hornsby took Spann’s gun and returned fire. Seven vehicles were struck by gunfire, including two occupied by bystanders. Police later determined that at least 25 bullets had been fired from three firearms.
Two days later, on July 27, 2020, while driving east on Columbus Drive, Hornsby and Spann spotted a rival gang member who was driving south on Rome Street. They followed the gang member down a residential street and, when they got close to him, Hornsby lowered the car window and opened fire, shooting dozens of bullets at the gang member.
Members of the Robles Park Enterprise also trafficked in cocaine, marijuana and firearms and stole the identities of people, which they used to submit fake applications for interstate wire transfers and unemployment benefit claims.
According to court documents, Hornsby and Spann submitted more than 200 fraudulent claims in 20 states, trying to collect $2.8 million. For many of the claims, a bank card was issued from the state in which the claim was filed loaded with unemployment insurance funds from financial institutions.
The two men later used these cards to withdraw cash from ATMs in Tampa and Hollywood.
On June 10, 2022, a third member of the conspiracy, Tywon Spann, was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Tampa Police Department and the Department of Labor with assistance from the United States Secret Service.
