Man, 35, Dies After Shooting At Tampa Intersection

Tampa Police say a shooting at the intersection of 93rd Avenue and 9th Street has left a man dead.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Police Department is investigating a Thursday afternoon shooting that left a 35-year-old man dead.

According to the agency, officers were called out to the intersection of 93rd Avenue and Ninth Street around 2:38 p.m. July 20 on a report of shots fired. When they arrived, they found Antwan Dixon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Dixon, an email from the police department said, was on the ground by a vehicle.

Police say their preliminary investigation showed that Dixon was in the area of East 93rd Avenue when he encountered another man. The two exchanged words, "which led to shots being fired by the other man," the email said.

Dixon was taken to a local hospital, but died from his injuries.

Police say the shooting does not appear random. The two men, investigators believe, knew each other.

No arrests have been made, but police say they have "promising leads."
