Shop Owner’s Murder Leads To Arrest

Tampa Police say a 24-year-old man is in custody following a Sunday shooting that left a store owner dead.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Police Department has announced an arrest in connection with a Sunday afternoon robbery that took a fatal turn. Police say Christopher Antonio Sheffield, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Mohamoud Ibrahim, 60.

The incident that led to Ibrahim’s death began to unfold around 12:37 p.m. July 16. Police say they were notified about a robbery at the 29th Street Store at 2802 N. 29th St. When they arrived, they found Ibrahim, the store’s owner, dead in an apparent robbery attempt, an email from police said.

“Sheffield was identified with the help of witnesses and video from the store,” a Monday morning email from the agency said. “He was arrested at 4 a.m. after detectives were alerted that he might be hiding out at an apartment complex.”

Sheffield now faces first-degree murder, robbery with a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm and felon in possession of a firearm charges.
