State Congressional Map To Be Redrawn, Report Says

Judge Terry Lewis is ordering Florida's 2012 congressional borders be redrawn after they were ruled examples of gerrymandering.

The Florida judge who struck down the state’s gerrymandered congressional map is now ordering it to be redrawn ahead of the state’s primary election this month.

As reported on Patch in July, Tallahassee Circuit Court Judge Terry Lewis ruled the state’s 2012 congressional map unconstitutional.

Judge Lewis is now ordering the state’s congressional map to be redrawn by Aug. 15, the Florida Times-Union reports.

According to the Times-Union, U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown (D), one of the congressional representatives affected by Judge Lewis’ July ruling, said the change “is certainly not in the best interest of Florida voters.”

The districts represented by Brown (of District 5 base in Jacksonville) and Rep. Daniel Webster (of District 10 in Orlando) were ruled by Judge Lewis as explicit examples of unethically drawn borders by the state’s Republican-led House and Senate.
