Sweltering Heat Dominates Tampa Bay Area Forecast

Heat index levels in the Tampa Bay area are expected to climb into the low 100s as the workweek continues.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Bay area residents and visitors may want to dress for the heat, but keep umbrellas handy just in case as the workweek continues. According to the National Weather Service, the next few days are expected to be quite steamy.

Monday is anticipated to kick things off with mostly sunny conditions and a high in the low- to mid-90s. The heat index is expected to climb as high as 104 degrees in much of the region by the afternoon hours. Storm chances, forecast at 60 percent, move into the picture in the late afternoon and are expected to remain through the evening. The overnight low should only fall into the upper 70s.

Tuesday is expected to bring very similar conditions, but rain chances aren’t quite as strong at 20 percent in the daytime and 30 percent in the overnight hours. Forecasters anticipate the head index will climb to about 102 degrees in much of the region.

Wednesday is expected to start out with partly sunny conditions and a high around 92 degrees. There’s a 40 percent chance of scattered showers in much of the region heading into the afternoon hours. Rain chances drop to about 30 percent in the evening with a low in the upper 70s forecast.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast for Thursday, but partly sunny conditions are also in the cards. The day’s high should reach the low 90s. Storm chances stick around in the evening hours when the low is expected to drop to the upper 70s.

Friday is anticipated to deliver a 50 percent chance for scattered storms in the daytime hours with a low in the low 90s. Rain chances linger heading into the overnight hours with a low in the high 70s forecast.

Highs in the 90s and daily storms are expected through the upcoming weekend.

While organized, severe weather isn’t in the forecast, some of the storms that crop up over the workweek could create strong, gusty winds, locally heavy rain and frequent lightning strikes, according to the weather service.
