Tampa Bank Robber Busted In Minutes: Cops

A 58-year-old man's alleged attempt to rob a SunTrust bank branch Tuesday morning fell flat within minutes, police say.

TAMPA, FL — A would-be bank robber accused of trying to hold up a Tampa SunTrust bank branch Tuesday morning didn’t even make it outside before police had him in custody.

According to the Tampa Police Department, Ray C. Cochran, 58, walked into the 1701 Seventh Ave. SunTrust branch shortly after 9 a.m. and passed a noted to a teller. That note said he was armed with a gun, an email from the police department said.

Officers received a holdup alarm from the bank at 9:18 a.m. July 11. When they arrived on scene, they saw Cochran still inside the building.

“Officers strategically entered the building and were able to take Cochran into custody at 9:24 a.m.,” the email said.

Police say Cochran was not armed. No injuries were reported.
