Tampa Bay Weekend Weather: Highs In The 80s Return?

Find out what's in store for the Tampa Bay area in the weather department over the weekend ahead.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Bay area residents and visitors ready for a break from feels-like temperatures in the 100s may get it before the weekend ends. But first, they’ll have to endure a few more blistering days, according to forecasters at the National Weather Service.

Friday is expected to kick the weekend off with mostly sunny skies and a high near 92 degrees in much of the Tampa Bay area. Heat index values are expected to climb to the low 100s before the afternoon is out. A partly cloudy night with a balmy low around 80 degrees is forecast for much of the region. Strong rain chances aren't in the forecast for Friday, but that doesn't mean a few drops won't fall in some areas.

Saturday is expected to start off with bright, sunny conditions and a high around 90. The heat index value is forecast to rise into the upper 90s, the weather service reported. There’s a slight chance for isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon hours. Chances for scattered thunderstorms rise in the overnight hours when the low should drop into the upper 70s, forecasters say.

A slight break from the heat is expected to arrive on Sunday. Unfortunately, the drop in high temperatures into the upper 80s will be accompanied by a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms during the afternoon hours Sunday, forecasters say. Storm chances remain strong heading into the overnight hours when the low should fall into the upper 70s.

Strong storm chances are expected to stick around through the start of the workweek. Forecasters expect daily highs around 86 degrees in parts of the region on Monday and Tuesday both. Rain chances drop by mid-week, but daily highs are likely to climb, forecasters say.

While severe weather isn’t expected over the next few days, forecasters are warning of the dangers the heat may pose. They also say heavy rains on Sunday and into the early part of next week could “result in some flooding issues,” according to Friday’s Hazardous Weather Outlook report.
