Tampa Bay Weekend Weather: Steamy Days, Afternoon Rain

TAMPA BAY, FL — Tampa Bay area residents with big outdoor plans this weekend will want to prepare for normal summertime weather. That means daily highs in the 90s with afternoon and evening thunderstorms possible.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday kicks things off with mostly sunny conditions and a high around 92 degrees. Forecasters say the heat index should climb to about 101 degrees. Storm chances begin to move in during the afternoon hours and stick around into the evening hours. As the night progresses, partly cloudy conditions are expected with a low in the upper 70s.

Saturday is expected to start off with mostly sunny conditions. Late risers might find the afternoon a bit of a washout, however, Forecasters say scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. On the upside, rain chances dwindle as the day progresses. The day’s high is expected to break the 90-degree mark with heat index values around 99 degrees. The overnight low is anticipated to fall into the upper 70s.

Sunday is expected to start off with mostly sunny conditions and a high near 90 degrees. There’s only a 20 percent chance of isolated showers in the forecast. Mostly clear conditions are expected in the overnight hours when the low will drop again into the upper 70s.

While severe weather isn’t in the cards, forecasters do warn thunderstorms that crop up could pack a dangerous punch. Some storms over the weekend could bring locally heavy rain, strong winds and plenty of lightning to areas where they develop.
