Tampa Bay Workweek Weather: Brace for Heat

Breaking: Heat index values in the early part of the week are expected to break the 100-degree mark in the Tampa Bay area.

TAMPA BAY, FL — Tampa Bay area residents hoping to give their air conditioners a break from constant cycling are not likely to see much relief in the workweek ahead. According to the National Weather Service, the region is in for another scorcher.

Monday kicks off the workweek with relatively sunny conditions to start the day. As the afternoon progresses, the high temperature is expected to climb to about 93 degrees in much of the region. Heat index values around 101 degrees are anticipated. There’s a 20 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms as the day continues, but they are not expected to cool things down much.

Forecasters say residents in much of the Bay area can expect an overnight low on Monday near 80 degrees. Partly cloudy conditions are expected in the overnight hours.

Tuesday starts off with mostly sunny conditions expected, but storm chances creep in right along with the afternoon. There’s a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms with a high around 92 degrees expected. The heat index value is once again predicted to climb to about 100 degrees.

Rain chances continue at 30 percent heading into the overnight hours Tuesday. Courtesy of those possible storms, forecasters expect the evening low to be a slight bit cooler at 77 degrees in much of the region.

Wednesday brings a small change in the forecast with slightly cooler temperatures expected throughout the rest of the week. While sunshine starts off the day, there’s a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms mainly after 2 p.m. The day’s high is expected to reach the low 90s with an overnight low in the mid-70s forecast. Storm chances continue at 30 percent heading into the overnight hours.

Thursday is anticipated to start off with sunny conditions that gradually turn into storm chances as the day progresses. A high near 90 degrees is expected with a 40 percent chance of storms in the afternoon hours. Isolated shower chances continue into the evening hours when the low should drop into the mid-70s.

Friday is expected to be a near repeat of Thursday in regard to temperatures and rain chances.

While organized severe weather isn’t anticipated throughout the workweek, forecasters warn thunderstorms could kick up strong winds while dropping lots of rain. Frequent lightning strikes are also possible with any storms that develop.
