Tampa Bay Workweek Weather: Strong Thunderstorms Possible

Find out what's in store for the Tampa Bay area in the weather department as the workweek continues.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Bay area residents and visitors may want to keep their umbrellas handy as the workweek progresses. According to the National Weather Service, daily thunderstorms are likely. While organized, severe weather isn’t anticipated, forecasters say some of the storms that develop throughout the week have the potential to be strong.

Forecasters say Monday should kick off the week with partly sunny skies and a high in around 91 degrees in much of the region. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the picture in the late morning and early afternoon hours. With a heat index value expected to climb to about 101 degrees, outside conditions will be on the steamy side, forecasters say.

There’s a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms heading into the overnight hours Monday. The evening low is expected to drop into the upper 70s.

Tuesday might bring slightly cooler conditions, with a high only in the upper 80s forecast. The tradeoff, however, is that storms may arrive earlier in the day. Forecasters say there’s about a 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms in the region starting around 8 a.m. Tuesday. Storm chances stick around heading into the overnight hours when the low should drop into the upper 70s.

Wednesday is expected to kick off with partly sunny conditions, but a 50 percent chance of scattered storms is in the forecast as the day progresses. The day’s high should climb into the low 90s. Storms may stick around into the evening hours when the low will once again fall into the upper 70s in much of the region.

Thursday and Friday are expected to both bring a 50 percent chance of scattered storms during the daytime hours with highs in the low 90s. Storm chances stick around both evenings with lows expected to only fall into the upper 70s.

With chances high for daily thunderstorms throughout the region, forecasters are warning that some of them may have the potential to be strong. Those storms could produce heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts and frequent lightning, the weather service warned on Monday.

Daily storms are also in the forecast for the upcoming weekend with a 50 percent chance forecast in the daytime hours on Saturday and Sunday.
