Here are the top five stories in Tampa today:

1. A Tampa man, 41-year-old Juan A. Romero, has launched a lawsuit against Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, and alleges that deputies "taunted, beat and slammed him into a fence" during a 2018 arrest, crushing his eye socket. The sheriff’s office declined to comment on the case. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Times)

2. Rene's Mexican Kitchen in Seminole Heights is offering a new breakfast menu with several options including loaded tacos for just $2 each, burritos and chilaquiles. Breakfast is offered from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. from Wednesday through Sunday. (Creative Loafing Tampa)

3. Hillsborough County firefighters are set to receive a 29% salary increase under the terms of a new three-year contract. The deal will boost starting pay for an entry-level firefighter from $46,300 to $55,386 over the life of the contract. The pay increase comes as the cost of living soars in the Tampa area. 4. The 2022 nominees for the Roberto Clemente Award are Tampa Bay Rays' Brandon Lowe and St. Petersburg native Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays. The award recognizes the player that best "represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field." The award was created in 1971 as the "Commissioner’s Award" and renamed in 1973 after Clemente passed away. (WTSP)

5. Tracie Hartman is the executive performance chef for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and prepares meals for all 53 players as well as coaches and support staff every day during football season. Meals are served at the Bucs' practice facility, the AdventHealth Training Center in Tampa. Hartman estimates that she has written 2,000 recipes since she started the job in April 2021. (WUSF)
