TAMPA, FL - Tampa police shot and killed a 48-year-old Brandon man Saturday after the man threatened them and a teenage girl, according to police. The man was identified as Sidney T. Richardson IV.

Tampa Police received a call regarding a man threatening a relative with a machete. Officers arrived at a home on Marvy Avenue and discovered a man in a room threatening a 17-year-old girl with a machete. The officers ordered the man to drop the machete several times. After he refused, one of the officers deployed his taser, and the man still would not drop the machete, police said.

The officers feared for their safety and for the safety of the teen so one of the officers opened fire, striking Richardson, police said. He later died of his wounds. The officers and the teen were not injured. The teen was identified as Jessica Marsh, Richardson's cousin.
