Tampa Street Racing Sting Leads To Multiple Arrests

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office initiated the operation "Trick, No Treats" on Friday.

TAMPA, FL — In a collaborative effort to put a stop to street takeovers and racing meets, The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office initiated the operation "Trick, No Treats" on Friday.

The sheriff's motor and street crimes units worked alongside the Tampa Police Department to stop and arrest a large crowd of street takeover violators that had the intersection of North Obrien Street and West Laurel Street blocked off in all four directions.

As a result, law enforcement:

  • Made 25 traffic stops
  • Issues 25 citations
  • Issued 10 warnings
  • Made 10 arrests ranging from DUI to felony fleeing and child endangerment
  • Impounded four vehicles with 30-day hold.

Additionally, during one arrest a ghost handgun was found fully loaded.

"(Friday) night's operation vividly demonstrates the perils of illegal street takeovers, endangering not just the reckless participants, but also the innocent bystanders," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We will not stand for this type of menacing behavior in our county, which is why I am beyond proud of our team who all displayed extraordinary dedication, swiftly intervening to stop these illegal activities."
