Tampa Woman Pries Dog From Gator’s Jaws: Reports
A Tampa woman fought off a 6.5-foot-long alligator Tuesday to save the life of her dog, Kona, according to multiple reports.
TAMPA, FL — A Tampa woman saved the life of her dog after prying the pup from the jaws of a 6 foot, 6-inch-long alligator near their house on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.
Kimberly Spencer was out for a walk with her 9-year-old dog, Kona, when a gator snatched the animal.
“All of a sudden I heard something and I looked over and I saw like the eyes in the water and I saw it turn right away. It was coming at us. It was like ten feet in, but ten feet away from the bank,” she told WFLA.

Spencer added in an interview with Fox 13, "She’s facing it, it's facing her, and it jumped out and got her. She was in up to here; her whole head was inside its mouth. I stopped thinking and just dove on it, jumped on it and straddled it, as lady-like as that is, and was trying to pry its jaws open."
Once Kona was freed, the gator ran back into the water, reports said.

Both Spencer and the dog needed stitches after the gator attack.
She told WSVN that it was natural for her to jump in and save her beloved dog.
“We’re empty nesters; she’s my baby, so I wasn’t ready to take on that mindset of an animal versus a human,” Spencer said.
