1. Tampa police are investigating a shooting that happened in Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa on New Year's Day. Police found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound being provided first aid by bystanders at the scene when they arrived. More information is expected to be released soon. (Tampa Patch)
2. Tampa's first Peach Cobbler Factory is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday, Jan. 7 at noon. The new location will be at 5003 E Fowler Ave. Suite A. The menu includes cookies, milkshakes, cinnamon rolls, and twelve different banana puddings among other items. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
3. Armetta’s Grand Jete Studio of Dance in Apollo Beach had their trailer stolen on New Year's Eve worth at least $10,000. The dance studio owners filed a report with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and learned they were not alone in the robbings with others close by also impacted. (Fox 13 Tampa)
4. Wesley Chapel High School basketball star Trey Murray is leading the state in points per game, with an average of 29 points per game. Murray's father played in the past at University of Cincinnati and he hopes one day he will be able to play at the college level or professional level as well. (Bay News 9)
5. Dr. Joe Diaco, a long-running Tampa surgeon and the first doctor of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he was one of the longest-running team doctors in NFL history, died on Monday, Dec. 19. He was 83 years old. Diaco also served as a board member of the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority and helped oversee Tampa International Airport. (Business Observer)
