These Are The Most Popular Pet Names In FL: New Ranking

More than one dog may run up to you if you are at a park and call for Gordon, Florida's most trending puppy name.

Skye is Florida's top trending kitten name, according to a ranking released Tuesday by Rover. The data displays this year's most popular pet names in the U.S.

Pets can don names after sports icons or those related to what is current and fun, Rover said. To compile this year's list, the pet-services company went beyond what has been favored in the last decade and opted to examine a database of more than a million dogs and cats.

"To identify the themes pet parents in the USA were leaning into, we analyzed all of the new pets added to Rover’s database in 2025. By looking at pets under the age of 2-years-old and applying a minimum threshold for names added from August 2024 to September 2025, we were able to get a good look at overarching themes to see what inspiration comes from brand new beginnings," Rover said in the report.

In the end, Elphie and Tater were the top trending names for puppies and kittens nationally.

Elphie, Fieyro and Glinda - all inspired by the recently released "Wicked" - may increase in popularity by next year, Rover predicted.

The rumored-sequel of "K-Pop Demon Hunters" may spark more pets named Rumi, Zoey and Mira, Rover reported.

Midwest-inspired dog names like Packard and Ted Lasso, and Y2K cat monikers like Jpeg and Bitcoin, are currently on the rise. Also gaining traction are 1990s cast favorites, such as Forrest Gump and Willie Wonka for dogs and Mary-Kate and Fat Louie for cats.
