FLORIDA — The Social Security Administration has released the most popular baby names in Florida in 2024, and Liam and Charlotte topped the list of boy and girl names.

When a child is born, parents supply the name to the agency when applying for a child's Social Security card. The agency tracks the thousands of names given to babies, and on Thursday, Social Security revealed the most popular names last year.

The 10 most popular boy names in the Florida were:

1. Liam
2. Noah
3. Lucas
4. Elijah
5. Oliver
6. Mateo
7. Dylan
8. Thiago
9. Luca
10. Ethan

The 10 most popular girl names in the Florida were:

1. Olivia
2. Emma
3. Mia
4. Isabella
5. Sophia
6. Amelia
7. Charlotte
8. Sofia
9. Valentina
10. Luca

Nationally, Olivia and Liam are once again America’s most popular baby names of the year. It is the sixth consecutive year that families chose to stick with both familiar names. Also, for the sixth consecutive year, Emma took the second slot for girls and Noah for boys.

The girl name Luna dropped from its spot among the top 10, replaced by Sofia, which entered at No. 10 for the first time.

Parents need their child’s Social Security number to claim them as a dependent on their income tax return or open a bank account in the child’s name and buy savings bonds. A child’s Social Security number is also necessary to obtain medical coverage or apply for any kind of government services for a child.
