Here are the top stories today in Tampa:

1. Hillsborough County Children's Services has launched a new program, Duffels of Dignity, to collect donations of new or gently used duffel bags, suitcases and personal care items for children in foster care or those who are escaping domestic violence and homelessness. 2. The population of mosquitoes surged in Polk County after Hurricane Ian hit three weeks ago and officials are taking action against the blood sucking pests. The state contracted Vector Disease Control International (VDCI) in coordination with the county to help control the mosquito problem using poison spray approved the EPA for air spray. Residents are asked to do their part by controlling standing water and debris. (Fox 13 Tampa)

3. A community effort is now underway to save "All Night Jazz" at WUSF 98.7-FM. The plan to move the program off the air brought outrage from musicians and listeners alike. A Change.org petition has been launched by pianist Pablo Arencibia to oppose the cancellation .(Creative Loafing Tampa)

4. Football superstar and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Quarterback Tom Brady apologized for comparing playing football season to military deployment. Brady said, "I made a statement about playing football and the military and it was a very poor choice of words. I want to express that to any sentiments out there that people may have taken it in a certain way. I apologize." (WFLA)

5. Police are investigating the shooting death of a 19-year-old man early Thursday morning. Tampa police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 37th Street and Wilder Avenue, and found the victim with wounded. He was rushed to Tampa General Hospital where he later died. (Tampa Patch)
