Unlicensed Contractors Nabbed In Hillsborough Operation Hot Water
The Hillsborough Sheriff's Office focused on unlicensed contractors who advertise and offer quotes for regulated services.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — An undercover operation by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office targeting unlicensed construction contractors resulted in the arrest of 22 people.
On May 26, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office began Operation Hot Water, focusing on unlicensed contractors who advertise and offer quotes for regulated trades such as plumbing, electrical work, roofing and air conditioning.
Undercover deputies posed as homeowners seeking electrical and plumbing services for a water heater, attracting people who attempted to contract work without possessing a valid contractor's licenses or proper insurance.

"This sends an unequivocal statement that we will not tolerate the despicable actions of fraudulent and unlicensed contractors who prey upon our community members," said Sheriff Chad Chronister.
To protect the community from falling victim to construction fraud, Chronister urges everyone to verify licenses, seek multiple estimates, investigate references, document everything in written contracts, avoid upfront payments, research complaints and trust their instincts.
