Early Saturday morning, polices say workers at the Hilton spotted something awry on the hotel's video cameras: A man was trying to open car doors as he walked southbound on North Tampa Street.
Then, the man opened the driver's door of a vehicle and got inside, sitting for about a minute before continuing south on his trek.
Security from the hotel called the police, and officers arrived to take a look at the surveillance video, police say.
Meanwhile, another set of officers found the man, later identified as Kevin Scott Alexander, walking at the corner of Ashley Drive and Whiting Street a few blocks away, police say.
The officers who viewed the video identified Alexander, 27, as the man seen opening car doors. Inside his backpack, officers found the victim's bank card and credit card, police say.
Alexander, who is homeless, was "belligerent and refused to be interviewed," but the victim was located, and police say his cards were returned.
