Valrico Man Accused Of Stabbing Girlfriend, Barricading Himself In Attic

The man is facing multiple charges following the Saturday incident, authorities said.

VALRICO, FL — A Valrico man is facing charges after authorities said he stabbed his girlfriend and barricaded himself inside his home while armed with a gun.

On Saturday morning, just before 2:40 a.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received a call from a person who heard screaming outside of a home on the 800 block of Cape Cod Circle in Valrico.

When deputies arrived, authorities said they found a woman suffering from stab wounds. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to authorities, deputies later learned the stabbing occurred during a dispute between the woman and a man identified as 21-year-old Stanley France.

Following the dispute, authorities said France armed himself with a gun and threatened five other people inside the home. The victims fled, according to authorities, and France barricaded himself inside the home's attic.

Hillsborough County SWAT, bomb and crisis negotiation teams responded to the scene. Following negotiations, deputies safely took France into custody without further incident.

France, who has a lengthy criminal history and a prior felony conviction, is now facing several charges, including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The investigation is ongoing.
