- An investigation is underway after a woman was fatally shot Wednesday night at the Silver Oaks Apartments located at 4200 Kenneth Court. Multiple people are being interviewed after what appeared to be multiple shootings at the apartment complex. Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities. (Tampa Patch)
- The highly-anticipated Wagamama will host its Grand Opening on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1050 Water St. in downtown Tampa. The concept is a "high-energy dining concept inspired by fast-paced Japanese ramen bars that showcases a fresh take on Asian plates." It will mark Florida's first location with another one not too far in Atlanta. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
- Hillsborough County commissioners have voted 6-1 to allocate $23.5 million to five nonprofit agencies to create 395 apartments for low-income residents. Commissioner Joshua Wostal was the lone member who voted against the funding aiming to create affordable housing. The votes come amid a growing housing criss in the county, a rise in homelessness, and food insecurity in the Tampa Bay area. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Times, Free: Fox 13 Tampa)
- Hillsborough County Public Schools is celebrating a graduation rate of 87.9 percent for the 2021-2022 academic year, an almost 2-point increase from pre-pandemic levels and a percent that beats the Florida state average for the first time in five years. African American students, hispanic learners, and students with disabilities all increased in their graduation rate. (Tampa Patch)
- A plan by Darryl Shaw to create a new 33-acre mixed-use waterfront development in the Ybor Channel just south of Adamo Dr. has been filed with the City of Tampa. The new development was transform the area and include up to 6-million square feet of residential, office, hotel and retail space. The plan features a focus on walkability and conneting Ybor City to the waters of Tampa Bay. (That's So Tampa)
