Witnesses Lead Detectives To Shooter Of Man At Park: Tampa Police

Through witness statements and video surveillance footage, detectives discovered that the two men got into an argument at Cheney Park.

TAMPA, FL — On Thursday, Tampa police arrested a 60-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting Tuesday night, according to police reports.

The shooting took place just after 6 p.m. in Cheney Park, 800 E Yukon St. in Sulphur Springs. Officers arrived to find a man in his late 20s dead from a gunshot wound. The shooter fled the scene on a bicycle before police arrived.

On Thursday, police arrested Carl Bradwell and charged him with one count of first-degree murder after witnesses provided information that led detectives to Bradwell.

Through witness statements and video surveillance footage, detectives discovered that Bradwell and the dead man got into an argument earlier in the day at the park. Bradwell then left and returned to the park later on his bicycle where he shot the victim, according to police.

"The swift identification and arrest of this suspect is a result of an outstanding investigation and the fact that witnesses stepped up to provide information to detectives," said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. "I hope the arrest of this criminal, and the fact that our community came together to aid in the investigation provides the family with some closure as they navigate the grieving process."
