Woman Standing Near Broken-Down Car On FL Highway Hit, Killed By SUV

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A 27-year-old Riverview woman whose car broke down on Interstate 75 early Thursday morning was hit and killed by an SUV, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The SUV, a Kia Sportage driven by a 25-year-old Sarasota woman, was heading south on the highway when she came upon the disabled Nissan Altima on the outside shoulder near milepost 247 around 12:30 a.m.

The Riverview woman was on foot near her car at the time, FHP said.

She walked into the road in front of the SUV, which hit her, and died at the scene.
