ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 21-year-old man faces DUI manslaughter charges after a Tuesday afternoon crash claimed the life of a St. Petersburg school crossing guard.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, David Roundtree, 72, was setting up his school zone cones on 9th Avenue North before Mt. Vernon Elementary's 2:35 p.m. dismissal time Nov. 8. At that time, a Toyota Scion driven by Charles Hunter Walton was heading west on 9th Avenue.

Police say Walton struck a pickup truck and then hit Roundtree. He also crashed into a school zone sign and a small tree before continuing on for several blocks, an email from police said.
