St. Pete Woman Wins $1 Million From Publishers Clearing House

Publishers Clearing House's Prize Patrol recently surprised a St. Petersburg woman with $1 million.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A St. Petersburg woman is $1 million richer after Publishers Clearing House’s Prize Patrol paid her a recent visit.

The patrol announced its intentions to present a “Big Check” and bouquets of roses and balloons to Holly Bloom late last week. When the patrol arrived at Bloom’s home on Friday, however, she wasn’t there. Undaunted, the crew traveled to Bloom’s place of work where they practically bowled her over with the big news.

“Oh, my God,” Bloom said after she was told what the hoopla was about. “Are you kidding me?”

Bloom’s win brings the total amount of money awarded by Publishers Clearing House nationwide to $300 million, a media release from the company said. Publishers Clearing House is a direct marketer of magazine subscriptions. It was founded in Port Washington, New York, back in 1953. The company has been offering its sweepstakes prizes since 1981.

“No matter how many winners we surprise or how much money we give away, it’s a thrill for us every single time,” said Dave Sayer, who heads the Prize Patrol. Sayer has been along to present nearly every check since the sweepstakes began in 1981.
