Uber Driver Dies Following St. Pete Crash
An Uber driver involved in a crash on 4th Street North over the weekend has died from his injuries.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 38-year-old man injured in a St. Petersburg crash on Saturday has died from his injuries. St. Petersburg Police said Robert Marthaller died at Bayfront Hospital on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
The crash that led to Marthaller’s death occurred around 1:13 a.m. Oct. 22. Police say Marthaller, an Uber driver, picked up passenger Gary Bruce Jr., 30, in the 2000 block of 4th Street North. Bruce got into the vehicle and sat in the rear passenger’s seat, police said.
At that time, a 2015 Ford Mustang driven by Timothy G. Kane, 25, was heading south on 4th Street North in the median lane. Tyler J. Bowne, 27, was riding in the Mustang’s front passenger seat.

Police say Marthaller attempted to make a U-turn on 4th Street to head back north. When he made the turn, police say his 2012 Chevrolet Cruze drove into Kane’s path. The front end of the Mustang struck the driver’s side of Marthaller’s Cruze.
Police say Kane and Bowne were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Bruce suffered serious injuries in the crash. At the time of the crash, Marthaller's injuries were described as life threatening.
