Alahouzos Announces Plans to Enter 2015 Mayoral Race in Tarpon Springs

Termed-out Tarpon Springs Vice Mayor Chris Alahouzos went out with a bang at Tuesday night's City Commission meeting when he announced his plan to run for mayor in 2015.

Tarpon Springs City Hall was anything but dull on Tuesday night, as termed-out Vice Mayor Chris Alahouzos announced big plans for the future.

Just before he received a standing ovation from the public, Alahouzos declared his intention to run for mayor.

"It is my intention to continue in public service, especially with an eye on the 2015 mayor's race," Alahouzos said. 

The news came after a slew of positive comments from residents and fellow commissioners, including the newest addition to the board, David Banther, who took the oath of office along with Mayor David O. Archie and Commissioner Larsen, who ran unpposed for re-election in March.

"I definitely have some big shoes to fill in Seat 4," Banther said. "Vice Mayor Alahouzos was a model public servant and I hope to emulate that." 

Alahouzos echoed his appreciation to the city and city staff after talking with Patch before his term came to an end.

"In leaving the Commission, I would like to thank the people of Tarpon Springs for giving me the opportunity to represent them," Alahouzos. "It has been an honor and a privilege to do so."
