Tarpon Springs Area Murder-Suicide Details Released

Pinellas County deputies say two people died in what is being classified as a murder-suicide.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL β€” The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide in the Tarpon Springs area involving an elderly couple.

According to the agency, deputies were called out to the 2500 block of Richards Road in unincorporated Tarpon Springs around 10:13 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28. A family member called deputies after finding the couple inside their home, an email from the agency said.

Detectives say Edith Kamp, 86, was found in her bedroom, suffering from a gunshot wound. Her husband, Robert Kamp, 92, was found in the bathroom "with a self-inflicted gunshot wound."

Edith Kamp was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Deputies say she died from her injuries Friday evening.

Robert Kamp was pronounced dead at the scene, the agency noted.

"Detectives believe Robert shot his wife, and then took his own life," the email said. "A suicide note was found inside the home."

Detectives say both Robert and Edith suffered from medical conditions and were being cared for by friends and family.
