Hennessy’s Bar Employee Shot, Killed

A Tarpon Springs man has been charged with first-degree murder following a Wednesday morning shooting at Hennessy's in Oldsmar.

OLDSMAR, FL — A 43-year-old Tarpon Springs man faces first-degree murder charges following a Wednesday morning shooting at Hennessy’s Bar in Oldsmar.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 127 Forest Lakes Blvd. establishment just after 1 a.m. Feb. 15. When they arrived, they found David Brown, 33, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Brown, a Hennessy’s employee, died at the scene.

Deputies say Brown was shot by a former customer of the bar, Brian Mytych of Tarpon Springs. Problems between the two men first arose on Feb. 6, the agency wrote in an email to media. Deputies were called to the bar that night after Brown and Mytych got into a fight. Mytych was issued a trespass warning from the business at that time and was told to leave. Mytych, the email said, refused to do so, became disorderly and was arrested as a result.

Deputies say Mytych returned to the bar early Wednesday morning before the shooting and was told to leave. He did, the email said, but returned a short time later and “shot Brown multiple times with a handgun.”

After the shooting, Mytych told customers to leave the bar before he placed a call to 911 himself to report the gunfire.

Mytych was brought into custody at the scene. Deputies say they recovered a .45 caliber gun from inside the business. Mytych was booked into the Pinellas County Jail following the incident. No bond had been set as of Wednesday morning.
