Kitten Tossed From Van in Tarpon Springs

Officials with the SPCA are seeking help from the public in identifying the responsible party.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, witnesses saw a person throw a kitten out of the window of a maroon van on Grand Blvd. in Tarpon Springs.

The Times reports that Palm Harbor resident, Gail Deterra was behind the van and was able to safely recover the kitten with some help from another driver.

"I saw something go out of the driver-side window,'' Deterra told the Times.

The kitten was taken to the home of Audubon board member, Barb Walker, who is a friend of Deterra's.

According to the Times, the kitten was estimated to be about 9 weeks old and was taken to Ridgemoor Animal Hospital., where it was determined to have suffered nerve damage that may result in amputation at some point.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals investigator, Jill Purl told the Times she was not surprised by the incident and that it is a common occurrence.

Purl is seeking tips from the public in the case. Any information folks may have can be directed to the SPCA Cruelty Investigation Hotline at (727) 586-3592.
