Tarpon Springs Peace Flag Project Underway

The City of Tarpon Springs has designated the event as a public arts project.

To send a message a of peace to the community and beyond, Tarpon Springs hopes to form an army of 10,000 peace flags to display from April 5-8.

Every Sunday at the Tarpon Market, folks can decorate a peace flag. The flags will be strung together and hung throughout the city.

Donations of materials needed to create the flags are being accepted at the City Manager's Office from now until February 22.

Donation requirements incude:

  • Used 100% cotton bed sheets
  • Must be clean
  • All colors and patterns accepted

The Peace Flag Project has gained momentum since November, 2012 and according to organizers, residents, businesses and healthcare providers throughout the area have come to the front lines to show their support for the project.

On March 9, the Tarpon Springs Public Library will host a free "Make Your Peace" event at the Tarpon Sunday Market from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Materials for creating a peace flag will be provided.
