A woman was struck by a pickup truck while crossing South Pinellas Avenue Wednesday morning.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL β€” The Tarpon Springs Police Department is investigating a pedestrian-versus-pickup crash that occurred Wednesday morning at the intersection of South Pinellas Avenue and Lemon Street.

According to the agency, officers were dispatched to the intersection around 11:24 a.m. Jan. 11. When they arrived, they found Joan Nelson, 63, of Wisconsin suffering from life-threatening injuries. Police say Nelson was crossing South Pinellas Avenue at Lemon Street in a westerly direction. As she was crossing, a 2008 Ford F250, driven by Emmanuel Pilatos, 32, of Tarpon Springs turned from the eastbound lane of Lemon Street to the northbound lane of South Pinellas Avenue.

When Pilatos made the turn, the vehicle struck the Nelson, an email from the police department said. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
