Pinellas County Hiring Lifeguards For 2017 Beach Season

The lifeguard positions at county beaches are needed from March to September.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL – Pinellas County is looking for people who want to spend their entire workday at the beach.

Pinellas is currently hiring lifeguards to monitor county beaches and help visitors stay safe while hitting the surf this season. Lifeguards will be stationed on county beaches at Fort De Soto Park in Tierra Verde, Sand Key Park in Clearwater and Fed Howard Park in Tarpon Springs from March to September.

Positions are available for full-time or part-time seasonal employment with pay starting at $12.55 per hour for new lifeguards and ranging to $14.98 per hour for senior-level lifeguards with an EMT certification. Lifeguards may work 8-hour or 10-hour shifts.

Requirements for the lifeguard position include:

  • American Red Cross certifications or equivalents in lifeguarding, current CPR/AED for professional rescuers and health care providers and first aid.
  • Three months of responsible lifeguard experience within the last five years.
  • Must complete 500-meter swim under 10 minutes and 1-mile run under eight minutes.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be able to work at any county beach park as schedule and staffing demands.
  • Will be expected to work a variety of schedules, including compulsory work periods in special, emergency and/or disaster situations.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.

  • Current first responder, EMT or paramedic certification
  • Coast Guard boating safety certification, eight hours

Certain service members and veterans, and spouses of family members of service members and veterans, will receive preference and priority in employment.
