Pinellas County Airports

There are 3 airports in Pinellas County for horizontal take-off and landing airplanes (HTOL). HTOL is different than vertical take-off and landing (VTOL). The purpose of this article is to learn of these airports. These airports always have VTOL capabilities. There are many more locations in Pinellas County for VTOL helicopters, like Hospitals.

All 3 of these airports are part of the NetJets network. NetJets is the Uber of private jets.

Clearwater Airpark Airport (CLW)

CLW is owned by The City of Clearwater.
CLW is the third largest airport in Pinellas County.
CLW is a public use general aviation airport.
Charter planes are allowed here. This is when you rent the entire aircraft.
CLW airport was opened in the 1940's.
CLW airport has 1 runway.
The runway is 1,219 meters by 23 meters.
The runway is open 7am-11pm daily.
It costs $16 per night to park a single engine.
125 aircraft are based at CLW.

Albert Whitted Airport (SPG)

SPG is owned by The City of St. Petersburg
This is the second largest airport in Pinellas County.
This is a public use general aviation airport.
Charter planes are allowed here. This is when you rent the entire aircraft.
The airport was opened in 1917.
The airport has 2 runways.
The first runway is 873 meters long by 23 meters wide.
The second runway is 1,120 meters long 23 meters wide.
The runways are open 24/7.
There are no landing fees and no takeoff fees. There are fees to park an airplane overnight, weekly or monthly or yearly. Monthly parking fees could cost around $100 per month - $1,000 per month.
185 aircraft are based at SPG.

St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport (PIE)

An international airport is characterized by its ability to process passengers and cargo traveling outside of The USA & arriving here. International airports have facilities for customs, immigration, and other border control procedures.

PIE is owned by Pinellas County.
PIE is the largest airport in Pinellas County.
PIE allow commercial aviation service. This means you can rent a seat on the planes here. Allegiant Air and Sun Country Airlines currently operate commercial flights at PIE. Of the 14 commercial aircraft parking positions available, 12 are used for boarding passengers, while the remaining two are reserved for parked aircraft.
PIE airport was opened in 1957.
PIE airport has 2 runways.
The first runway is 1,829 meters long by 46 meters wide.
The second runway is 2,856 meters long by 46 meters wide.
The largest aircraft the airport can accommodate is a Boeing 747.
The runways are open 24/7.
PIE supports commercial aviation, general aviation & governmental aviation. The United States Coast Guard, The U.S. Army Reserve & The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office aviation unit use PIE.
