Sandbag Stations Open In Tarpon Springs

The city of Tarpon Springs has opened its sandbag locations to help local residents weather Tropical Storm Emily.

TARPON SPRINGS, FL — Tarpon Springs residents in flood-prone areas will find help available as Tropical Storm Emily eyes the region. The city has announced the opening of three sandbag locations for Monday, July 31.

The locations opened at 8:30 a.m. and will remain in place “until further notice and maintained as necessary,” the city wrote in an email to media.

Residents of incorporated Tarpon Springs may pick up sandbags at the following locations:

  • Splash Park on Live Oak Street, between Alternate 19 and U.S. 19
  • Sponge Docks, west end at Roosevelt Boulevard
  • Dorsett Park on East Harrison Street

Tropical Storm Emily formed off the Tampa Bay area’s coastline in the overnight hours. As of Monday morning, the storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.
