TARPON SPRINGS, FL — The Sponge Docks area is closed Sunday as Tropical Storm Debby churns along Florida’s west coast Sunday, the Tarpon Springs Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

Debby is expected to make landfall as a hurricane Monday morning in the Big Bend area.

The Sponge Docks area, located along the western end of Dodecanese Boulevard, has been blocked off to through traffic and drivers are asked to avoid the area, police said.

Debby will likely move slowly across the state Monday, produce rainfall totals of 6-18 inches over northern Florida through Friday morning, and cause flash, urban and river flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
