Officer Yourgules was acknowledged for his work and for helping about 200 individuals get off the streets of Tarpon Springs.
Although he thanked the Mayor, the Commission and Chief Kochen, Yourgules did not give a speech. However, Chief Kochen had no problem praising Yourgules for his accomplishment.
"Jose has a special knack for working with homeless people and it's amazing to watch," said Chief Kochen.
Corporal Frank Ruggiero of the Tarpon Police Department received an award for his role as the Accreditation Manager.Â
Over the last two years, the department was under the microscope of law enforcement experts from around the state of Florida. In order to achieve Accreditation status, the agency had to comply with more than 260 standards.
According to Chief Kochen, larger agencies assign the Accreditation Manager role as a full time responsibility, but Corporal Ruggiero was able to balance his regular duties as well as working to maintain a high level of quality around the department.
Like Officer Yourgules, Corporal Ruggiero did not share any words after receiving his award, but Chief Kochen filled in.
"He spearheaded our efforts towards Accreditation," said Chief Kochen.Â
The Board of Commissioners shared their gratitude to both officers for their commitment to the city.
Mayor Archie also added that the city plans to do its best to recognize positive changes made through the works of public safety officials more often.
"This is a chance just to say that we appreciate all that you do and because of you, we call can go home and feel safe," Mayor Archie said.
