Tarpon Springs Patch Readers Respond to Texting Ban
The Florida Senate recently approved a measure that would make it against the law to text while driving and residents in the area are sharing their thoughts.

Although it took five attempts by Sen. Nancy Detert, R-Venice, the Senate recently passed the bill to ban texting while driving onto Gov. Rick Scott.
The four prior attempts by Detert did not make it past the Senate.
The bill will make it illegal to text during operation of a moving vehicle. And according to TBO.com, the ticket for the offense will be $30.
We asked Tarpon Springs Patch readers if they thought the enforcement of the ban would make local roads safer. Most responded with support of the ban while others had different opinions or ideas.

"Pinellas roads are some of the most dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists I've ever seen. Ensuring that drivers are watching the road and not their text message should have been enacted decades ago as was done in other states," Thomas Andrew commented.
Another reader stated that there are stricter measures to be taken before the roads become significantly more safe.
Sherri Patterson wrote that the ban won't make a difference until "it is a primary offense instead of secondary."
Reader, James Coleman added that the ban will not make difference in his eyes. He responded with, "no, because these road are still full of morons."
