VIDEO: 12-Yr-Old Conservationist Educates at Brooker Creek

Brooker Creek hosted a family fun day on Saturday with special guest and frog expert, Avalon Theisen.

Not only is Avalon a frog fanatic, she cares about all living things and their overall effect on the environment.

An activist for the environment since she was just 9 years old, Avalon started a non-profit ogranization, Conserve It Forward, which has a growing base of support on social media sites likeFacebook.

During the family fun day, more than 100 registered participants filled the preserve's auditorium to take notes from the sixth-grader.

From an interactive speech indoors to a frog listening hike outdoors, Avalon gave folks a day they won't soon forget.

The frog listening hike, a normal occurrence for Conserve It Forward supporters, consisted of a walk through Brooker Creek with Avalon teaching participants how to differentiate species of frogs by the sound they make.

For Avalon, educating the public is not work as much as it is a way of life.

"If we don't protect our environment, we're not protecting future generations," Avalon said. "And if we're not protecting future generations, then there won't be any future and we need a future to survive."
