City Welcomes New Commissioner David Banther

During Tuesday night's Tarpon Springs City Commission meeting, Mayor David O. Archie took an oath of office along with Comissioners David Banther and Jeff Larsen as the board entered a new term.

Pride was in the air at Tarpon Springs City Hall on Tuesday when the Board of Commissioners welcomed one new member as well as two returning.

As the city bid farewell to beloved Vice Mayor Chris Alahouzos, it welcomed the arrival of Commisioner David Banther.

It was noted by a number of commissioners that Banther's desire to serve the city has been known for years and that his new role came as a welcomed addition.

"I know that he will do a great job," Mayor David O. Archie said. 

Banther was joined by his family during the presentation. He took an oath of office and was awarded a key to the city.

As a native of Tarpon Springs, it was evident that he was beyond thrilled to be sitting on the Board of Commissioners.

"It is a true, distinct honor and privilege of a lifetime to serve my hometown in this capacity," Banther said. 

Banther won the race for Seat 4, while Mayor Archie and Commissioner Jeff Larsen ran unopposed and also took oaths of office for new terms on Tuesday evening.

Joined by his family, Archie seemed pleased to take on another term.

"I believe that this Commission here will serve the city well," Archie said. "I know that we all will try to do what's best for the city of Tarpon Springs." 

Larsen spoke out in gratitude of his family's support as well.

"I am truly honored and I'm humbled to have been re-elected," Larsen said. "I am very lucky to have the best family that I could possibly have."

The next Board of Commissioners meeting is slated for Tuesday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Tarpon Springs City Hall.
