City Clerk Recognized Before Retirement

Lisa Small is scheduled to retire on May 17.

Members of the Florida Association of City Clerks and the Florida League of Cities crowded into the City Council Chambers at City Hall Tuesday to surpriseΒ City Clerk Lisa Small, whoΒ is scheduled to retire May 17.

Small began working for the city as deputy city clerk on Oct. 2, 2000. Upon the retirement of Faye Barkholz, Small was appointed to city clerk and started that position on March 27, 2004.

During her tenure as city clerk, Small served as president of the Florida Association of City Clerks in 2006-07, and she received the President’s Award in 2001-02 and again in 2007-08. She also received the association’s highest award, the Robert N. Clark Memorial Award in 2010.

She served as Region III (southeast United States) director of the International Institute of Municipal Clerksβ€”an international association for city clerksβ€”2009-12.

According to the resolution, Small also:

  • Served as chairperson for Relay for Life in 2003
  • Participated in academies, conferences and educational seminars sponsored by the Florida Association of City Clerks to develop her skills
  • Became a master municipal clerk in 2006

β€œI’ve been a very busy person,” she said last month.
