City Council Considers Annexing Property

If annexed, seven properties in the U.S. 301 Industrial Area would generate $37,913 in annual property tax.

The City of Temple Terrace intends to annex several properties in the U.S. 301 Industrial Area, generating additional annual property tax for the city.

Three properties in the area have already been annexed. At its meeting Tuesday evening, the Temple Terrace City Council learned about the voluntary annexation of the next seven properties at 8801, 8804 and 8811 Maislin Drive, 7601-7603 Industrial Lane, and 8801 Industrial Drive.

Additionally, the city would annex the adjacent rights-of-way. The land, including the seven properties and the rights-of-way, totals nearly 35 acres.

All seven properties will yield $37,913 in annual property tax for the city, said Brad Parrish, senior planner with the city’s . Hillsborough County has not objected to the annexation.

If the council decides to move forward with the annexation of these seven properties, the city will still have about 20 more properties in the U.S. 301 Industrial Park to annex, said Community Development Director Charles Stephenson.

β€œWe will continue to request petitions from the rest of the property owners, and eventually we’ll have that entire area incorporated into the city,” Parrish said.

A public hearing on the measure is expected to take place at a future council meeting.

Also during the March 5 meeting, the council:

  • Considered a zoning reclassification and the final site plan for Idede Professional Park at 9780 N. 56th St. The property owner would like to reuse the existing building and a proposed addition for three medical offices and a pharmacy. Once open, the offices and pharmacy would operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. A public hearing on the measure is expected to take place at a future council meeting.
  • Approved three resolutions including: an agreement with the (Councilman Bob Boss recused himself from the vote because of his involvement with the club’s board); the purchase of crime and drug prevention programs and equipment; and a contract to Dallas 1 Construction and Development to relocate the water main at 56th Street and 113th Avenue.
  • Heard a presentation on the fiscal year 2010-11 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
