Community groups and residents helped raise money for the device at the Family Recreation Complex.

The fitness center at the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex has a new Automated External Defibrillator thanks to several community groups and residents.

The community donated $2,800 toward the purchase of the AED machine, according to an article posted on TBO.com.

Cori Collins, a recreational supervisor in charge of programming at the Recreation Complex and 30-year city employee, organized the effort.

AEDs, which are designed to help those who go into cardiac arrest, are located at every city facility, Collins said in the TBO story. There’s one in the lobby at the rec center, but Collins thought there should also be one in the facility’s fitness center where the chance of someone going into cardiac arrest is greatest.
