Communications Center Hosts Open House April 10

The Temple Terrace Communications Center will celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.

The Temple Terrace Communications Center will host an Open House on April 10, 2-4 p.m. in recognition of National Public Safety Telecommunications Week (April 8-14).

As part of the event, the Fire Dispatcher of the Year will be announced at 3 p.m.

The Temple Terrace Communications Center is a primary 9-1-1 call center for Hillsborough County, handling nearly 10,000 emergency calls a year and more than 30,000 annual calls for service. The call center is unique in that it utilizes a single dispatch center to coordinate police, fire and medical responders. It is staffed by 12 full-time communications officers.

National Public Safety Telecommunications Week was established by Congress in 1992 at the behest of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO). The week is dedicated to honoring the hard-working individuals who provide 9-1-1 assistance to callers across the country.
