Community Garden Group Plans Worm Workshop

The event will take place March 3, noon-1 p.m.

The group has spent the past few months cultivating the garden at and is ready to have their first workshop.

The Organic Gardening & Worms session and Q&A will take place March 3 from noon-1 p.m. at the Riverhills Park gazebo behind the school. The workshop will be presented by Worm’s Way and is free and open to the public.

β€œWe are so excited about holding what we plan to be the first of many gardening workshops at the site,” said Jennifer Marshall, who is organizing the event. β€œThe community garden is a wonderful place for people who love gardening to learn from each other and also to connect with some of the hidden gems in the Temple Terrace areaβ€”programs, agencies and businesses who care about gardening, community sustainability and quality of life.”

Marshall said group members chose worms as their first topic because worms are important to the soil in an organic garden.

β€œWe hope to learn more from Worm’s Way about organic gardening and vermiculture for this reason,” she said.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about the community garden and the group’s with individual plots at Riverhills Park. The group has workdays every Saturday in the current school garden, which is one large community plot.

Group members will provide snacks during the event, such as muffins and scones. Marshall said those who attend should bring their own drinks. They should also bring their own chairs.

The event will open with a tai chi demonstration by the . Event sponsors are Worm’s Way, Temple Terrace Patch and the Temple Terrace Preservation Society.

Marshall said the group plans to have similar events every month or two.

β€œCome join us and meet some of your really great neighbors in Temple Terrace, enjoy the beautiful park, learn about gardening,” Marshall said. β€œAll are welcome.”
