St. Joseph’s John Knox Village in Tampa, part of BayCare Health System, along with LifePath Hospice, invites the community for lunch and a stage reading of "Vesta," an enlightening American Stage performance about a woman nearing the end of life and the choices she and her family ponder as the reality sets in.
Presented by American Stage Theatre Company, the intimate 90-minute drama examines, with humor and warmth, an ordinary family’s struggle with end-of-life issues. The title character, Vesta Pierson, is a grandmother confronting her own loss of independence after a stroke. Together Vesta, her daughter and granddaughter face a series of complex medical, economic and personal issues surrounding her bout with cancer and inevitable death.Â
"Vesta," written by Bryan Harnetiaux, is licensed by Duke University and its Institute for Care at the End-of-Life. BayCare Health System received a grant from Allegany Franciscan Ministries Inc. to mount the production. Representatives from LifePath Hospice, Axis Palliative Care and Project Grace will join Faith Community Nursing representatives from St. Joseph’s Hospitals and South Florida Baptist Hospital in an open forum discussion following the production.Â
