Gardeners Learn About Juicing, Composting

The group hosted its second workshop April 21 to teach gardeners and other Temple Terrace residents how to improve their soil through composting.

Steve Grace of led the  session, which took place at the gazebo near the small Community Garden at . A larger Community Garden is planned for Riverhills Park.

Grace also handed out information about the family garden center's upcoming Square Foot Gardening Class on May 12 at 11 a.m., which will be led by Dacia Mitchell, who is certified in the subject.

Before the session, Temple Terrace Patch blogger and Seminole Heights resident Amanda Smith led a juicing demonstration along with David "RawMan" Raines of God's Farmacy and Joy Farms in Thonotosassa.

They each shared their favorite recipes using their own juicers:

Supergreen Juice by Marissa
Baby Spinach leaves, washed
"Granny Smith" apple, cored and sectioned
Celery stalk
Pear, cored and sectioned

Energizing Juice by Amanda
2 whole grapefruites, peeled
5 carrots, washed
1/2-inch thick piece of ginger

Hippocrates Green Drink by RawMan
1 bunch dinosaur kale
2 handfuls sunflower sprouts
4 springs celery
1 to 1 1/2 cucumber
1 handful cilantro
garlic and ginger to taste
