Library Offers Book-Writing Programs

A published author will be teaching local residents how to write their own stories on Feb. 11.

When Teressa Fraser heard Elizabeth Huntoon Coursen speak at a genealogy meeting, Coursen’s words piqued her interests.

Fraser, assistant library director at the , teaches a Life Story Writing Workshop and genealogy classes at the library. Coursen, of Sarasota, has written three books and lectures on self-editing and self-publishing.

“Writing your life story and genealogy are very popular,” Fraser explained. “Many people are interested in publishing their story whether it’s just for family members or in the hopes of becoming a recognized author.”

So, Fraser asked Coursen if she would speak at the Temple Terrace Library, and Coursen agreed. She’ll be doing two programs on Feb. 11. “Yes, You! An Entertaining Autobiography in Three Easy Steps” will take place at 10 a.m., and “Calling All Authors! The Seven Steps to a Wildly Successful Book Tour” will take place at 1 p.m.

Both programs are free and open to the public.

“Maybe writing an autobiography is the ultimate in driving your kids crazy with stories of walking 40 miles, uphill, in the snow, barefoot, to school,” Fraser said. “Whatever the reason, this is a good way to get professional advise on how to write your story.”
